Alliance Francaise and the Southern Food and Beverage Museum will host the Concours de Croissant on Saturday, December 6th, 2014. Sample croissants from the city’s best bakers, both professional and amateur, from 10 am to 12:30 pm, and vote for your favorites. Summer Veach, a baker at Gracious Bakery, will demonstrate croissant preparation at 11:30 am.

If I wasn’t feeling so lazy, I’d be tempted to enter the amateur category. Pictured at left is a (slightly misshapen) croissant, made with levain, a poolish, and European cultured butter.
