Lay’s “Do Us A Flavor” contest

Ever wanted to dream up your own potato chip flavor?  Your chance has arrived!  Enter the Lay’s “Do Us A Flavor” contest and you could see your creation in a bag of chips, or win a daily prize of $50 and a bag of chips.  Grand prize is $1 million.  So if you’re tired of Southern Style BBQ or Sour Cream & Onion, try your hand at dreaming up a new Lay’s flavor.

Hmm, I have a few good ideas, but I think they’re all too “niche” for a mass-market chip.  I would very much like to eat:

  • Smoked boudin chips
  • feta & za’ater flavor
  • nuoc mam & thai basil chips
  • crab fat chips  (my mouth waters just thinking of this one)
  • andouille & onion chips
  • roast beef gravy chips

I don’t see any of those flavors taking off nationwide, do you?  But I would buy ’em….

    • You are right on the money with bacon….but I happen to dislike “bacon” flavored non-bacon items. It’s always an odd, artificial smoky taste unlike any bacon I’ve ever consumed. Maybe a cheese flavor will carry the day…..or how about bacon and blue cheese?

    • Doesn’t it? I would like some feta and za’atar chips right now. And how about roasted lamb flavored chips? If we can have “buffalo wing” chips and “mesquite steak” chips, why not roasted lamb? I know some folks who would go nuts for chicken shwarma chips (not gonna name any names).

    • Zapps has a dill flavor, and it seems like I saw a Lay’s limited edition pickle flavor a few years back. I think a parmesan chip could be tasty….

    • Pringles has a bacon ranch flavor, but I must say that it is disgusting. Not a good translation of “real world flavor” to “chip flavor” at all.

    • Ugh, anise/licorice is NOT my idea of a potato chip flavor! Now, if it were fennel instead of anise, I can conceive of a porchetta-flavored potato chip…fennel, garlic, rosemary, black pepper, & roasted pork.
