Looking for a diversion this weekend that doesn’t involve bunnies, eggs, boiled crawfish, or the usual Easter stuff? Then head to Broussard, LA, where the local Laotian community celebrates New Year with a three-day festival.
I’ll admit, I didn’t know Broussard, a smallish town just east of Lafayette, HAD a Laotian community. The Advocate wrote about Lanexang Village back in 2008; it’s a neighborhood of about 80 lots, anchored by a Buddhist temple, with 500 to 1,000 Laotian residents.
From the Iberia Parish Travel website: “Lanexang Village celebrates the new year every Easter weekend with a three-day festival that includes live music, a beauty pageant, parades, sand castle building, kids activities, and several vendors selling clothes, jewelry, music, and food from Laos. Location: 7913 Champ Avenue, Broussard, LA 70518”

Went to the Laotian festival last year and had the best time. It was so hot, but we enjoyed the parade and the booths (food, clothing, art) and the temple is beautiful. If anyone has the opportunity, please go!
My husband and I, been there 3 or 4 years in the row, and we don’t want to miss it, lots of fun ,, lot of good foods, t shirts, fresh sugar cane juice, coconut water and more food. Good entertainment , plenty things to do for the weekend.
I haven’t ever made it to the celebration…maybe I’ll get there this year.
