Bake with me this fall

You have three opportunities to bake with me this fall…three separate 3-hour classes, offered through St. Charles Parish Schools’ Community Education Program.   The classes, priced at $30 each per person, meet in a fully equipped, multi-station kitchen classroom at Hahnville High School in Boutte, LA, where each student has ample workspace for hands-on activity.  Each student pays a $10 supply fee and receives a durable, reusable rising container and dough scraper, plus all necessary ingredients.  (Supply fee is just $5 for returning students who should bring dough bucket and scraper to class.)

Take your choice of one, two, or three sessions:

  • Wednesday, September 19th, 6 pm to 8:15 pm:  Basic Bread Making.  Learn to bake American-style soft sandwich bread, dinner rolls, and hamburger buns.  Students will mix, knead, and shape dough in class, taking home a ready-to-bake sandwich loaf and rolls.  A good class for the absolute beginner, or for those who want to brush up on essential yeast baking skills.
  • Wednesday, September 26th, 6 pm to 8:15 pm:  Mediterranean Flatbreads.  Get past pizza and discover the world of Mediterranean flatbreads–learn to make sweet and savory focaccia breads, French walnut fougasse, and pita bread.
  • Wednesday, October 3rd, 6 pm to 8:15 pm:  Holiday Sweet Breads and Rolls.  Cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, and filled sweet braids, with an emphasis on whole grains to make holiday treats more nutritious.

To register for these classes, review the St. Charles Parish Schools Community Education Fall Brochure for instructions and course numbers, then download the registration form here.  Early registration discounts apply until August 13th; the deadline for registration is August 31st.

    • From Audubon Park to Hahnville High School is around 18-20 miles. Trip takes anywhere from 30-55 minutes, depending on route, traffic, etc.
