The Firecracker, a seasonal specialty sandwich at the St. James Cheese Company (5004 Prytania St, 504.899.4737), is a delicious, hot mess. Thick slabs of summer tomatoes, pimento-chipotle cheese, and toasted almonds, all grilled inside a baguette: it’s a grilled cheese sandwich for the gods.
Of course, once inside St. James, it’s almost impossible not to buy something else…like burrata cheese, boquerones, Fra Mani salumi, Cabot clothbound cheddar, a whole Mt. Tam cheese….
