A coffee geek lives at my house, and for once, the geek is not me. Here’s the latest coffee toy, a Bodum Santos vacuum pot, acquired by the Geek.
While the vacuum pot does make delicious coffee without a trace of sediment, it isn’t fast and has multiple parts to clean. Give me the immediacy and jolt of an espresso any day over a cup of drip coffee.
If I have to drink drip coffee, Imy 79-cent aluminum cup-top Vietnamese ca phe phin makes the best coffee of any coffee appliance we own.

I’ve gone through 3 of these coffee makers. They are great BUT fragile! I’ve had 2 electric ones, both from the 50’s, they burnt out from over uses no doubt. I do have one made from stailess steel but the seal is shot. One day I’ll make a silicone seal that will take the heat, making sure to use the silicone sealent for OUTSIDE. It does nout have the anti fungli’s in it.

Funny you should mention fragile: the bottom of our Santos pot shattered recently. So now we’re using a Bialetti Moka pot for stovetop coffee-making.
