Beginning yeast baking class, this fall

Registration is now open for my “Baking with Yeast” class, offered through St. Charles Parish Schools’ community education program.  The hands-on course will cover yeast-baking basics, including kneaded and no-knead methods.  See the complete course description in the Fall 2011 Community Education brochure PDF (on page 23).  Yes, bread will be baked and eaten during class meetings.  This is not a demonstration class:  each student will gain hands-on experience with kneading and shaping yeast breads and will finish the class with the essential skills and tools needed to bake at home.

The three-session class will meet on Wednesdays (September 21, 28, and October 5) from 6:00 pm to 8:15 pm at Hahnville High School.  The first week will cover yeast basics and an “American” white bread suitable for sandwich loaves, dinner rolls, and burger/hot dog buns; week two will focus on no-knead techniques, and week three will cover focaccia, pizza, and flatbreads.

Tuition is $65, plus a $10 supply fee due the first night of class.  To enroll, complete & mail the registration form located at the bottom of this page.  The registration deadline is August 31st, and the class is limited to 15 students.
